Comic Creator Bootcamp: Session One

Project Critique & Industry Feedback

Got a comic idea? Already working on one? Finished your first issue?

Before you spend months drawing pages, paying for printing, or launching a Kickstarter, get honest feedback from professionals who know the industry.

Join us for the first session of the Comic Creator Bootcamp, a hands-on workshop designed to help independent comic creators develop stronger stories, stronger art, and stronger comics.

Bring whatever you're working on—character designs, scripts, thumbnails, finished pages, covers, or completed books—and receive constructive feedback from two experienced comic industry professionals.

Meet Your Reviewers

April Connors (Professor Raco)

Professional comic artist and educator who teaches throughout Los Angeles. Known for helping artists strengthen their storytelling, character design, and visual communication.

Marcus McNeal — Odyssey Comics

Founder and CEO of Odyssey Comics, an independent comic publisher based in Chino Hills/Corona. Marcus works directly with independent creators and understands what it takes to prepare a comic for readers, retailers, and distribution.

Together, they'll review your work and answer your questions about:

  • Storytelling
  • Character development
  • Sequential art and page flow
  • Comic covers
  • Visual storytelling
  • Dialogue and pacing
  • Publishing
  • Distribution
  • Selling your comic
  • Pitching your project
  • And anything else you want feedback on.

Learn Even When Your Work Isn't Being Reviewed

Most critiques will take place as a group discussion, allowing everyone to learn from each project and hear how professionals analyze comics. You'll gain valuable insight not only from feedback on your own work, but also from seeing other creators' projects discussed in real time.

Prefer a private review? That option will also be available.

Don't Have a Comic Yet?

You're still welcome.

If you've always wanted to create comics but don't know where to start, this workshop is a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and connect with other artists and writers. Independent comic creation can be a solitary journey, and this is a chance to become part of a growing creative community.

This Workshop Is Perfect For:

  • Writers with a comic idea
  • Artists developing original characters
  • Writer/artist teams
  • Independent comic creators
  • Creators preparing to publish
  • Anyone who wants honest, professional feedback on their work

This Is Just the Beginning

This workshop is the first session in an ongoing Comic Creator Bootcamp series. Future sessions will guide creators through every stage of developing an independent comic—from storytelling and character creation to cover design, sequential storytelling, production, and preparing a professional, pitch-ready comic.

By the end of the series, you'll have the knowledge and tools to confidently present your comic to distributors, retailers, conventions, or other publishing opportunities.
